Leonard Roscoe Tanner III (1951 - )
Tanner grew up in Chattanooga, TN, and graduated from Baylor High before heading to Stanford University. While at Stanford, he helped the team become a national contender, culminating with an NCAA Doubles Championship with his teammate, Sandy Mayer, and a number two finish for the school overall in 1972.
After turning pro, Tanner went on to have 16 titles, including the 1977 Grand Slam event at the Austrailian Open. His 153 mph serve during competition stood as the record for 26 years before being beat by Andy Riddick in 2004.
Following retirement, Tanner began instructing others. He now serves at-risk youth in Florida.
